Executive Summary
The main law enforcement agencies in my area include the Portland Police, Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, Oregon State Police, and Several federal agencies including DEA, FBI, CIA, DHS, etc.
Portland Police – “The mission of the Portland Police Bureau is to reduce crime and the fear of crime by working with all citizens to preserve life, maintain human rights, protect property, and promote individual responsibility and community commitment” (Portland Police Bureau).
Multnomah County Sheriff – “The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing exemplary service by providing high quality and cost-effective prevention, intervention, and detention services to the communities and citizens. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life by reducing crime and the fear of crime through innovation, partnerships, and teamwork” (Staton, 2010).
Oregon State Police – “The mission of the Department of Oregon State Police is to enhance livability and safety by protecting the people, property and natural resources of the state” (Oregon State Police, 2016).
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) – “The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets”( dea.gov).
