Factors Affecting Process Design

Introduction.
Managers have to consider factors like the nature of demand, the degree of vertical integration, flexibility, degree of automation, and quality level and degree of customer contact while making process design decisions. The nature of demand revolves around organizations producing products or services based on customer needs and preferences. They have to schedule their production so as to be able to meet the estimated future demand levels. Methods for estimating future demand consider factors like seasonality, growth trends, and other demand patterns that affect future demand levels.
At SRA International Inc., there are many process designs that are associated with the position of Office Manager in Colorado Springs. Many of these processes cannot be tracked by any matrix due to either security measures or time constraints. There is one process that has some unique factors that affect process design, and that is the process that will be discussed.
Process
Interagency Project Review (IPRS) Process and Briefing is a comprehensive, time consuming task that is completed on a monthly basis.  This is a briefing that is completed for all projects assigned to the Colorado area.  It consists of financial gathering of all actual labor, non-labor, and un-billable actions on each of our government projects to ensure we are in compliance with contractual obligations.
A key element on gathering this information is the company’s use of an Enterprise Planner.  This is the program that the company uses to manage all financial matters of all projects assigned to the company.  It assigns personnel who can charge to the project; creates a baseline of financial expenditures; has manual input of forecast data that is obtained from talking with the project manager.
