Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study and compare the Christian’s worldview and the Buddhist’s worldview. The key concepts of God, morality, mortality, creation, and beliefs will be looked at and explained. The affects of the health care worker on the two faiths explored.
HEALTH CARE PROVIDER AND FAITH AND DIVERSITY
Every person has a unique worldview. A worldview is a belief system in which one either consciously or subconsciously holds as truth about the world and James R. Sire (2004) states that in order to understand a person’s worldview, seven questions must be answered: what is prime reality, what is the nature of the world around us, what is a human being, what happens to a person at death, why is it possible to know anything at all, how do we know what’s right and what’s wrong, and what is the meaning of human history. While each person’s perception may differ and there may be variations amongst each individual religion, each faith has their own basic beliefs.
Prime Reality
Prime reality focuses on the belief of it there is a God or a higher power. It asks, “What is real?” The Christian worldview is made up of many basic components. The belief revolves around the idea that there is an eternal God. Christians believe that God created humans and the universe. Christians believe that the Bible is the word of the Lord and that Jesus was the Son of God who died and arouse from his death to pay for mankind’s sins. (Pritchard, 2013).
The Buddhist, on the other hand, does not believe in the concept of God. They believe that all that is existence is born from a spontaneous occurrence. Buddhists believe in nirvana. Nirvana is the awakening of oneself. The Buddhists believe in order to become enlightened and reach nirvana that they must extinguish the three fires: passion, aversion, and ignorance (Wikipedia, 2015).
