Federal Intervention in Education History of American Education Paulette Turpin April 28, 2008 Who should have input inthe education of our children? Should parents, local and state government, or the federal government have a say in the education of this nations children? Should children who are classified in a minority group have the same education as children in the majority? Do all children deserve the right to a quality education so that one day they will be prepared for employment out the home? During this paper I will discuss why it a good policy for the Federal government to impose regulations for public schools who accept federal money. How this affected the children with disabilities in a life improving way. I will also discuss my opinion why all children deserve the right to a quality education. The Framers of the Constitution of the United States did not include provisions for education in the Constitution. During this time period democracy was the foundation of the United States and a concern for the education system was if a private group or organization was in control of the educational system, democracy would not survive (Pulliam John D.,Van Patten James J.;History of Education in America,9th Edition,pg122.). In today’s educational system local, state and federal governments have a say in the way schools are run. Local and state governments under court orders in some cases had to meet the needs of all school aged children regardless of social class, race disability and English proficiency. This forces citizens and parents to look at the educational system in a different way they may look at personal social issues. In general they have to face issues of diversity they may not be comfortable with. The majority had to include minorities in order to receive federal money. Racial diversity is the most common known diversity program; it was not until the mid 1970’s people started to recognize physical diversity programs in education. Children with...
