According to the official website, Sainsbury’s is the third largest British supermarket chain. In 1869, John James Sainsbury and Mary Ann Sainsbury established the largest supermarket chain - Sainsbury’s in London. It grew to become the largest grocery retailer in 1922, pioneered self-service retailing in the UK, and its heyday was during the 1980s.
