How Politics Influence Food

The everyday American has many problems in today’s world. The economy is not doing well, job security is unsure; getting loans for homes or cars is getting harder by the day. One thing that is not getting any harder is finding a place to eat. Over the past 30 years restaurants have open up like wild fires spread. Grocery stores have gotten bigger and carry more products then ever. The days of have to hunt and gather for your own food for your family to survive have ended. Why would someone want to hunt for an animal all day when you can spend 15 minutes at a fast food restaurant and feed your entire family? What people aren’t seeing though is how this is affecting our everyday lives. The risk that we are putting are bodies at is increasing growing and the government is right behind it all the way. As long as we spend the money they will help put the product out there even if it is a health risk. They can’t afford not to since the people running these huge companies invest in the political leaders that we have today.
It really all starts with the local farmers and how the government has rules and regulations set for them. The day of the mom and pop farm has all but ended, and it has become one large corporate industry. Growing food just for your family has become increasing hard to do. Corn is one of the most farmed plants in America and it is in almost everything that we eat or drink today. The corn farmer are regulated by the government and receive some payments that are paid by are tax money. They are still barely getting by on what the government gives them yet they produce more corn today then they ever have. A big part of this is the 1973 farm bill that was passed. It went from a loan program to a direct payment program. This encouraged many farmers to just sell their corn at any price because the government was going to pay them a predetermined amount of money anyway. With the government getting involved...
