Formula to Success
A goal is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. Setting goals, that meet these meet these criteria, can be both fun and challenging at the same time. The goals I have set for this semester will not only make me a better writer, but a better student overall.
Learning to document in MLA format is the first goal I have set for myself this semester. Achieving this goal will be essential not only for English 101 but will also lead to future success in any class that requires research papers. The fact that I am majoring in Computer Engineering, makes learning to document in MLA format even more important, because writing research papers and being able to document properly will be an important skill in my journey to obtain my bachelor degree.
Being able to develop a clear and solid thesis is another goal I would like to achieve this semester. A thesis statement is the basis of an excellent paper so its importance cannot be overstated. Secondly, learning the fundamentals of writing a solid thesis is essential, because the graduate program I have aspirations of enrolling in requires the completion of a thesis statement. Thus, mastering this technique will be vital to my success this semester as well as in my future.
The next goal I have set for myself is to improve the organization of the papers I write. A well organized paper allows readers to easily follow the author’s thoughts. It can also be used to show emphasis by highlighting significant details depending on how the author chooses to organize it. I have struggled in the past with the organization of some papers I have written. One paper in particular I struggled with organization was a paper I wrote on Frederick Douglass, chronicling his life.
