Psychology is merely just the study of the mind and behavior by both humans and animals. Psychologists have been using psychology for decades to help people through stressful situations and problems. They have even used it to help better determined and explain to people why they act and do what they do. The one way that psychologist get the information that they need to solve your problems is that they begin to ask you a series of questions, whether it be personal or off- the- wall. Every question has a purpose, though you might not understand why they asked you why you scratch your head, but in the end it all comes together to better help the psychologist let you know what is causing you to have the problems you’re having to better know how to help you through them. (Psychnet, 2009)Psychology can be broke down into four different categories including: Positive reinforcement, Negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment. Each of these deals with what is the best way to reward and what is the best way to punish, as well as how you ought to go about doing so.
The first one we will discuss is Positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is simply where the occurrence after performing good behavior is then repeated again and rewarded. Positive reinforcement is used every day by all ages of people ranging from infants to elders. Some ways that people use positive reinforcement in their everyday lives are: By doing what you were asked to do without having to be told again, or an animal doing a command that is told to them without being scolded. Here is an example of positive reinforcement. Say you are a teacher of a class of about 15 students, and every student wants to talk to their friends. You know that they have work to do and you have a lecture to go over. What do you do so that every student learns and gets rewarded for paying attention? First get your students attention.
