Choose one passage from Frankenstein and analyze it in terms of its thematic and stylistic features.
When one enters college, there are never any signs saying Do Not be too curious about your studies or, Do Not Learn anything that your teacher hasnt taught you. As we all learned in Frankenstein, there should have been. The pursuit of knowledge within this book seems to be a recurring theme that in the end Victor learns the consequences of. Also the overflowing of texts within this text really shows a concrete structure to this narrative. The use of Romanticism from Shelley is obvious in this book and it is shown through an older generation expressed their style. The pursuit of knowledge begins the creation of the monster Frankenstein, while Victor attempts to access the secret of life. Also, Robert Walton tries to reach the North Pole, yet another pursuit of knowledge outside of the human mind at the time. This pursuit of knowledge ends up being dangerous to each of the characters voyages. Victor builds the monster and the monster eventually destroys everyone he cares about. Walton ends up trapped between sheets of ice. Victor's obsessive hatred of the monster that he had created in his pursuit of knowledge drives him eventually to his death. Walton learns from Victor’s faults and pulls back from his mission to the North Pole. Walton was lucky enough to realize in time how dangerous knowledge taken to the extreme could really be. Frankenstein is not only full of the theme to pursue knowledge but it is also overflowing with letters, notes, and books. Sometimes the books are quoted from the person telling the story within the story. The notes are being exchanged throughout the entire book, and once again with knowledge, Victor and the monster were both obsessed with the ability to gain as much knowledge as they could through the books they could get a hold of.
