Freefall
I sat at the table eating my dinner whilst the others chatted away about how Osama bin laden had been recently seen in the Zabol province, which was to the south of Kabul. I imagined I wasn’t going to be sent anywhere as my missile disposal group had only got one job for the last two years. I looked up to see Colonel Albert striding towards me. This was a surprise; I might be in a job for once. “Andrew, I want you to be at the briefing tomorrow at six o’ clock so I expect you to get to your bunk right now and inform Jack that he needs to be there as well.” He barked whilst spraying his spit all over my face. I went to bed not knowing how to feel about tomorrow.
There were eight of us at the briefing in the morning, all of us feeling apprehensive about what was going to happen. Only me and my mate Jack knew about bomb and missile disposing. The rest were just SAS soldiers. I knew all of them quiet well though so I wasn’t left out. “Do you think our missions got anything to do with bin laden being in Zabol?”Jack asked me. “I reckon it’s something else, why would they need us two then if it was.” I whispered back when suddenly the colonel marched into the tent with a map rolled up under his arm. He rose onto the platform. “As you all may have heard that Bin Laden has been located in the south of the province Zabol, Intelligence has told us that they have located their headquarters. This is situated in the south of Zabol.” He paused and took a deep breath, and carried on, “Your mission is to infiltrate their headquarters and then Jack along with Andy needs to disable their scud missiles which have been fixed on us. The entire regiments lives depends on you lot, and another thing if you find Bin Laden do us a favour and capture him.”
