Fruit Bowl Version 6 Analysis

Hans Hoffman’s Fruit Bowl Version 6, is an extremely interesting piece of art work. It was the most engaging, in my opinion, of any of the four works to choose from for this paper. The colors seemed, brighter, the composition grabbed my interests, and the size and scale of this work together to make it so captivating and intriguing. I couldn’t help but choose this piece as my favorite work, and the subject of my analysis.
Of the many interesting aspects of this work, it’s the color that is the first thing to draw you in. There is not a large variety of colors used, but the ones that are present are vivid and intense. The brightest value is found right in the middle, and is where your eyes are drawn almost immediately. Inside this light area, the curved and abstract shape inside is a grayish hue, with no real color in it. But right next to it, the smaller object, is not outlined in the same shading of gray, but changes from a grayish color into a blue, and then even more so into a green. I do believe that the color in this work compliments the composition rather well. Although it’s not necessarily symmetrical in shapes, you get a feeling of color symmetry, or balance, in the image. One of the noticeably interesting aspects as the use of the greenish hue to outline some of the shapes. In some parts, the paint was thin, and the colors behind it could break through and cause a kind of blending to them, making the colors intermingle. This was especially prominent with the reds that the green overlapped and outlined. There were also instances, more specifically in the left side portion of the painting, where there are streaks of the green in the large area of yellow that is used as another outline. This time however, there is no actual bordering color, but rather, a stroke made in the same yellow, that is purely defined by the texture of the paint.There are traces of green in this area, but if that green was not present, you could still easily see a defining...
