Fully Applying a Decision Making Framework
This assignment requires that we evaluate the ethical dilemma presented in this case. Albert Gable is a CPA and he has to consider many different elements while working on the case. This case “The Locker Room Talks” (Brooks, 2007) is something that happens a lot when a CPA gets to know the client on a personal level. I feel that this situation could have happened to anyone, who is just a friendly person by nature. This is a great example, when a business professional allows themselves to get too close to their clients when they really shouldn’t.
In this assignment, we will:
* Describe the dilemma at hand.
* Describe the events that created this dilemma.
* Provide a possible solution
In this ethics case, the loan officer for the bank is the first stakeholder. Mrs. Wilson is the secondary stakeholder. Several different dilemmas affect each of these stakeholders. Larry Wilson engaged and became close friends with Albert Gable, who is a CPA partner for a firm located in a small Midwestern city to prepare a financial plan. During this time, Albert was performing audits on random accounts for the bank. Larry and Susan Wilson’s account was one of the accounts selected for an audit through the audit test sample (Brooks, 2007). While doing the audit and financial plan for Larry, Albert became concerned that certain information in the files did not agree with facts personally known (Brooks, 2007). Albert without disclosing his client relationship with the Wilson’s did discuss the loan in detail with the loan officer. The loan officer mentioned to Albert that he believed that Larry was preparing his financials in a way that would allow him to leave his wife without giving her access to any funds in case of divorce.
