Alice is a good girl but she is very insecure. She worries a lot about her weight and always thinks of herself below others. Alice and her family are moving because her dad got a new job. This made Alice very happy but her happiness becomes short when she feels like and outcast at her new school. She is very lonely and scared. Everyone in her family has settled in well, while Alice on the other hand, is having a hard time. Hat summer Alice decides to go spend time with her grandmother because she her only friend Beth went away. An old friend, Jill invites her to a yearbook signing party, even though they didn’t go to the same school. At the party, Alice began to feel a little different when she had drank some coke. Jill asked her if she had ever played the game called “button.” Alice who has never done really anything before said “no.” Jill then told her what the game was. She said that she had put LSD in 10 out of the 14 bottles of coke but the best part of the game was that no one new who would get it. Alice never having tried drugs before said she was happy she had been one of the people to get it. “ Wow, I’m glad I was one of the lucky ones.” Alice said that she was never going to do it again because it makes a person a “dope addict” but she said she couldn’t wait to try pot but only once.
Alice then begins to use drugs more often. She even starts doing acid and even loses her virginity while on it. She had told herself a while back that she wasn’t going to lose her virginity unless it was with Roger, but since she was on drugs she would do anything with anyone. Alice even started to look different so different that her parents began to worry about her. Later, Alice meets a girl named Chris who becomes a really good friend. Chris was also into drugs. She helps Alice get a job and both become very popular in school. Richie Chris’s friend introduces Alice to marijuana.
