Government Corruption


This country was founded on the concept of rebelling against an unjust governing body in order to establish a potentially better government. The birth of our nation can be credited to those who chose to stand up to their ruler and taking on the burden of regulating their own society, but who’s to say the government our founding fathers established centuries ago is still straight as an arrow? Recently society has began to question whether or not we are actually being protected by our own government instead of being treated as pawns in their potentially corrupt chess game.
A dispute arose earlier this year when the confederate flag was flown above the capitol building in South Carolina after an incident, which involved the unfortunate killing of nine African American churchgoers by a Caucasian shooter by the name of Dylan Storm. Controversy arose when people began to question whether or not it was morally just for the flag to remain atop the building considering its history and negative connotation towards African Americans.As the American people called for the removal of the flag and corporations such as Wal-Mart and Amazon joined the fight by removing all confederate flag related products from their shelves, the government allowed the people to vote on the issue. In my opinion, the federal government handled the situation about as well as they could have all things considered. By allowing the state to decide on the fate of the flag they avoided having people criticize the federal government for their possible decision. In the end, the people of South Carolina should have the final decision and by voting to have it taken down they made the right one, in my opinion.
