I agree with you that in general the governmental involvement to business should be limited. However, while it is academically correct, it is not that straightforward in practice: there is no absolute answer regarding the extent to which government should involve and intervene into the market.

Normally, in good time, we all tend to claim that there are too much involvement and regulations from the government that prevent business from free and healthy development. Yet in hard time (like we are today), we also claimed that it was the lack of governmental control as to the businesses of some “fat guys” from the Wallstreet that made the problem. We also blamed government as to the delay in “implementing” or “not implementing” something to help the businesses and all of us (for example, debate about the bailout out).

So, I would thing that it should depend on each particular business situation and circumstances; as well as each particular industry.
