“Something I found out about my grandma”
A few years ago I took my grandma to a buffet in our neighborhood called “The King’s Table”. My grandma doesn’t go out to dinner very often because she doesn’t like to spend money on herself. I knew that she absolutely loved buffets, so I thought this would be a nice treat for her birthday.
Before we even took our seats we loaded our plates sky high with food. This restaurant, which has been owned by the same family for over 70 years, has the most amazing selection of food and everything tastes like it is homemade. When my grandma goes to a buffet she usually wants to stick around for a really long time. She wants to make sure she has tried every single item and that she gets “her money’s worth”. It can take up to two hours sometimes.
We have both been to this restaurant many times before but today I felt a little uncomfortable. For some reason I felt like the waiters, who are the sons and daughters of the restaurant owners, were watching us the whole time. Maybe they don’t like the fact that we always stick around for such a long time. I couldn’t quite figure it out.
After about half an hour the restaurant owner, who I have known since I was a little girl, came to our table and asked my grandma to leave. I could not believe what I just heard. How dare he ask my grandmother to leave the restaurant! Is he discriminating against old people? We have been here so many times. Does he think we eat too much food? I felt myself getting really angry and about to explode when my grandma asked me to let her take care of the situation. I could tell that she looked really insecure. However, she said that she would not leave and that Don, who was the owner, has no reason to get her to leave the restaurant. She is a paying customer who has come here for years. She said that this is a buffet and that we should be able to eat as much and stay as long as we wanted to.
