"The Person Who I Believe is a Great Leader"
Throughout the life of Thomas Jefferson he demonstrated leadership until the end. At the age of twenty-one, he took charge of the Jefferson estate after the death of his father. This is only the beginning of his leadership. Thomas Jefferson showed leadership by taking control and expanding the country, by building establishments for young people, and by enforcing equality.
In 1803, the Louisiana purchase was made. He had sent James Monroe and Robert Livingston to purchase the land from France. The land doubled the size of the United States and made land more available for Americans to settle and explore. Not only that but Jefferson sent out an expedition, the Lewis and Clark expedition. It produced a hefty knowledge of the scientific and geographical information on the land and helped the European- American settling of the west greatly.
Thomas Jefferson showed leadership by making ideal national institutions for young people. For instance, the United States military academy West Point, was established and now provides well trained officers for a professional army. Another example is the University of Virginia. He wanted a university free of church influence and excellent education affordable for the average family household. This was a start to the public school system and shows he was a great leader.
Lastly, he believed in equality. The Democratic- Republican party, which he started, was founded from the belief in the balance between federal and state control.
