Many years after the mighty Beowulf destroyed Grendel and his mother, bringing peace to the land, another problem had arisen. Beowulf and the Geats put aside the fact that Grendel and his mom had family. Along with the family came evil, and revenge. This account will show you the destruction that this caused.
As the holidays were coming Grendel’s grandmother was talking the long trip from the land of the abyss to see her family in the swamp. Little did she know what was in store for her when she arrived. When she got there she called out their names, “Grendel, Gertrude” (Grendel’s Mother), but got no answer. After no one replied she stated to worry. It was not long after that when the creatures in the neighborhood of the swampland told her about the tragic event that occurred while she was gone. They explained to her in great detail about the epic battles that had taken place in which her loved ones had died because of the almighty Beowulf. Immediately Grendel’s grandmother was infuriated. All she could think about was how to get back at him. Her eyes lit up with the flame of revenge. She was determined to find and kill Beowulf, even if it is the last thing she did.
Meanwhile back in Beowulf’s kingdom, prosperity and happiness had spread throughout the land. He had been the king of the Geats for around twenty-five years at the time, having no problems at all with the kingdom. Beowulf would constantly tell the stories of his victories in the past, and how it was he who had restored peace to Hrothgar’s land. Every day he would take a long walk to the outskirts of the kingdom where Grendel’s head was placed. He did this for the sole purpose of reminding himself of how he had become so successful.
