Violent crimes are committed in this country everyday; these crimes often are committed with a fire arm. Seldom has a day gone by without these types of crimes being covered in the newspapers, and on television throughout the United States. The gun control issue is a very divisive one; people feel very passionate about it regardless of the point of view that is held. If someone is for tighter gun control then you will not have to look to hard to find someone just as passionate about second amendment rights. What ever side of the aisle people are on one thing is for certain, this country needs to keep fire arms out of criminal’s hands.
Fire arms, and in particular hand guns need to be kept out of criminal’s hands. Violent crimes often involve people who possess a fire arm illegally. Possessing a firearm is illegal if a person has been convicted of a felony. Hand guns are often purchased by people who should not own them. People who commit a crime with a gun usually acquire them through methods that are hard to monitor. If a criminal is determined to get a gun there is very little that can be done to stop them, this is not to say it should not be attempted. There is to much easy access to fire arms by the determined criminal.
The easy access to a fire arm is a serious problem. As mentioned earlier, guns are not hard to get, the goal is to make it as hard as can be for the criminal to not acquire the gun in the first place. Criminals can get guns from people they know, pawn shops, and gun shows. These methods are loosely monitored by the government, if they are monitored at all. Monitoring would be possible, to crack down on the people who sell guns at these types of places with out hurting the responsible gun owners, and sporting enthusiasts who follow the rules and buy guns the legal way.
