Health Care System Paper
Health care is one of the most talked about subjects today. For many it is costly. Physicians are being monitored more closely. Prescription drugs seem to end up more in the hands of those they are not meant for than those actually need them. Hospitals compete for the services of the consumer. Outpatient clinics and urgent care facilities have become the “next best thing”. Wellness and preventative care provide a better outlook for our health. Intertwined together, all of these contribute to our health care system in one way or another. An individually important aspect is how we feel we should be cared for. What we believe and what will help us does not always line up together. The question is how does all of this work together?
Each country has its own model system for health care. No system is actually perfect. There is what is called a National Health Service by which Great Britain cares for its population. Germany uses a socialized health insurance system to supplement the health care for its population. Japan has two systems in which one is a replica of Germany’s program. The other is a national health insurance program. One thing that groups these countries together is that they stand firm on what will be paid for services rendered.
The definition of a system, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is something made up of interdependent or related parts which work together for a common goal. Health care is very broad with a number of umbrellas that each covers something different. There are physicians, nurses, therapists, specialists, other providers, and insurance to lessen the cost to consumers. Health care is in the process of becoming how we are to base our lifestyles in order to live longer and healthier.
