From Firefighters to the Incredible Hulk, the definition of “Hero” can vary. What a child may call a hero can be very different compared to what an adult considers a hero. Personally, I believe a hero is anyone who puts themselves in harm’s way in order to prevent harm from happening to others. But Hollywood has a very different opinion about what a hero is. In any one of the countless hero movies, the Hero itself usually has some kind of help; whether it is a spider bite, a dip in some toxic waste, or even a genetic mutation. But at least Hollywood and I share one similar aspect of the definition; we both believe that a hero is someone who will do what it takes to save those who would otherwise be in serious trouble.
One timeless example of a heroic story is Beowulf. In this story, you read about fantastic and death-defying tales of battle. The main protagonist, Beowulf, starts off as a perfect example of a warrior. Examples of his loyalty, strength, mental dexterity, and overall fighting ability are shown as stories of him defeating monsters are told.
