Heroes All Around Us
When we were kids if someone asked us who our hero was, many of us would reply with Batman, Superman, Power Rangers, or Ninja Turtles. As we mature our idea of what a hero is changes. Changes occur from childhood and teenage years arrive and the sport stars, movie stars, and singers become our obsession. As we reach adulthood our versions of heroes evolve and those around us become our heroes, our family and friends, also those who touch our lives in a way forever changing. Firefighters, police officers, and soldiers are those that are our real life heroes. A hero is an individual who has impacted your life in a positive way that you look up to that person with the utmost respect and honor.
Heroes can teach people life lessons, save their lives, or fight for a cause. A hero can have several definitions and different meanings to each individual. Many times in life a person will influence you and because of who they are and what they do you will consider them your hero. The media has a twisted portrayal of what a hero is. Mel Gibson, Kobe Bryant, and former president George Bush are considered heroes. Why is that? Is it because their money, fame, status, and achievements allowed them this title? Mel Gibson is a great actor and director, but is he a good role model? Even though he did offer an apology, Mel Gibson offended many Jewish and non Jewish people with his anti semitic remarks. Just because he has money and celebrities status does that make him a good hero and someone to look up to? The media has called Kobe Bryant a basketball hero and legend. He is a great basketball player with talent and skills in his sport. His personal life divulges a whole other side to Kobe that he would not want the public to see or even know about. He cheated on his wife, which he admitted after getting caught, and had to go to court because of rape allegations. The media should not worship this individual and call him a hero.
