This is a GUIDELINE for your Child Observation Assignment. Basically, I'd like you to observe a child (any age is fine -- from infancy through adolescence). The observation should last anywhere from 1-2 hours. You will take notes as to what you observe, try to eliminate any analysis at this point, just concentrate on behavior. You will most likely observe the child and be able to apply concepts from all three domains of development (physical, cognitive and emotional). For example, a child's language skills will be part of the cognitive domain; when you observe an infant rolling over, that will be part of the physical/biological domain; and when you see a toddler interact with his or her parent or peers, that's part of the social/emotional domain). Don't worry if you don't observe behavior from each domain. Once you have your observation notes, you will then apply the concepts and ideas we've talked about in class to the behavior you observed. I'll talk more about this in class once we've covered more material. This is a GUIDELINE for your Child Observation Assignment.
