There are lot of antique civilizations in the in the North America. People of the North America have built lot of handmade designs, shapes etc. Monk mound got its name because of the monastery of French Trappist monks that was built on the top of it in the 1800's. It was constructed in a dozen or further periods over the sequence of two centuries. Monk Mound is one of the antique pyramid in the civilization of North America which was built by hand. There was not any great earthwork more than this Monk Mound at that time. It is situated near the East St. Louis, IL. Limestone blocks, plain cypress and red cedar stakes are also used in the construction of this pyramid. Limestone blocks were the major part of material used in this pyramid.
Different type of colored soils were used in the construction of this mound which was brought here by the people of this area. In the last year, a research is conducted to determine the origin of soil which was used in the construction of this mound. Either by rafts or on foot this soil was brought here by the people. The soil colors used in this construction were black, blue, gray, white, red and brown.
