Historical Research
Historical research is a type of research that is used when the researcher examines past events in order to arrive at a conclusion of what has happened. The study of history is important in understanding certain trends and phenomena of the past that still affect the world today. Researching history and culture can assist in understanding the current culture and the world as it is today (Johnson & Christensen, 2007). This type of research can aid in discovering patterns in the past and assessing changes and trends for the present and/or future. Historians are constantly searching for new methods and approaches to interpret past events in order to bring significant application to the present. Since it is a qualitative approach, historical research articles bring an understanding through the ideas and personalities that influenced the studied event. Historical research is an invaluable research method.
There are many significant reasons to conduct historical research. This type of research seeks to answer unknown questions or delve into unknown events because some historical events are not properly remembered in history. The unknown questions are important to answer because we can benefit from finding the answers. The methodology also looks to research and evaluate the accomplishments of individuals, agencies, or institutions. Also, it assists in our understanding of our culture because if we know the background, significance, and history surrounding an important part of our culture, we’ll be able to understand and appreciate it, as well as improve on it.
