Colonialism- Desire of major powers to get colonies – for favourable trade- for resources- strategic locations- for mana- Germany’s recent arrival meant they had missed colonial opportunities- they had to upset status quo

Paragraph 2: Kaisar Wilhelm quickly lost Bismarcks alliance system in his pursuit of Weltpolitik

Paragraph 3: The friendly relations that developed between France and Russia prompted Britain to turn to the French as colonial allies. This was seen as a threat by Germany who sought to break up this alliance

Paragraph 4: The Kaisers support of Moroccan independence led to an internation crisis which was resolved at the Algecirus Conference

Paragraph 5: Germany had misjudged the situation and were left more isolated as a result of the Moroccan Crisis

Germany influenced Wilhelm and Germany into challenging the union of Britain and France. After 20 years Germany enjoyed peace and security under Bismarck. Wilhelm wanted Germany to follow a world policy, or Westpolitik which indicated turning Germany into a world power with a large colonial empire and a powerful navy to protect it.
