The History of North Mecklenburg

North Mecklenburg High School opened its doors on September 4, 1951. It has seen some very important people come through its doors. North Meck has experienced many changes and many issues over 59 years. However thru all the changes it is still the high school to be at. North Mecklenburg High School has been influential in tens of thousands of student’s lives and the community.
North Meck students and staff have always been very proud in their athletics. In fall on a Friday night the football stadium is the place to be. North Meck has had so many college bound athletes pass through the athletics program. North Meck athletic programs have had many ups and downs during its 59 year athletic program.
The soccer program is one of the best in the state. Just this weekend alone the women’s soccer team traveled to Raleigh to face off against Wilmington Hoggard at Curtis and Jack Dail Stadium (NC State’s soccer stadium). They won 7-6 on a Lisa Myers PK to capture the 2010 Women’s soccer state title. The men’s soccer team has had great success as well. In the 1995-96 season the team went undefeated in the regular season but lost in the first round of the playoffs. They have captured state titles, conference championship, and many playoff berths. This has happened in just about a decade alone.
The baseball team has been a great program for North. This year alone they have 3 players going to play baseball in college. One of the players is Aaron Spano who is going to Appalachian State University. In the spring of 1957, North won its first state AA championship in baseball. In 1991 the baseball team was in the Tri County Conference and was coached by Coach Blackwell.
The basketball team is truly one of the best high school dynasties in the state. They won the 2005 men’s state title. They went 31-1 and had 20 straight wins. They beat Westover in OT 68-65. They were led by Jamie Skeen who committed to Wake Forest for basketball. The...
