History Paper on Impirialism

In the late 1800 imperialisms expanded tremendously throughout Europe. This had many consequences, good and bad. Imperialism is the act of one country invading another country for its own benefits. The British had different types of imperialistic rule throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. The British affected the economical, cultural and political statuses of these countries.

Joseph Chamberlin had many thoughts about why colonies are valuable to Britain. He felt that the profit being made from the colonies should go to the workers to improve their equipment. Chamberlin had the vision of helping the government along with the people and the army. He said if the British would not take Africa and make it into their own colonies they would lose all power in that area. The colonies gave them profit because it provided a source of raw materials for the British. The British then soled finished product for profit to other colonies.(1)

When the British went into Africa they did not only improve their work lives but their way of life as well. The British improved their ways of transportation by adding railroads in place of swamps and deserts. They improved the income and cured diseases throughout Africa. The slave trade and tribal wars were ended with the support of the British. There was not more human sacrifice and they became educated enough to make decisions on their own. When Europe came into Africa the initial results were negative. The tribes fought against each other and the rate of deaths rapidly increased. As the imperialism moved on the lives of the Africans improved in many ways. The Africans became educated in industry and agriculture by the British.(3)
