With a directing career that spans over sixty years and some fifty films(1), Alfred Hitchcock reigns as one of the all time great directors in Cinema history. His diverse body of work covered almost all genre, demonstrating how great Hitch had mastered the craft of direction, no matter what storyline was being developed. The suspense thriller was Hitch at his very best and the best of the best was “ Psycho.” The 1960 classic starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh that set the mark that all future thrillers would try to reach but could never touch. Born August 13, 1899 in Leytonstone, England(3). Hitch new what he wanted to do with his life. The budding industry of film production was introduced about the same time, together they grew up and almost became one. When you think of film and especially great and memorable film, Hitchcock comes into focus. The first film the twenty five year old director completed was “ The Pleasure Garden “ in 1925(1). A collaboration between American and German producers filmed in Munich. Although it was the first time at the directing wheel for Hitch, it was not released until after his second effort “ The Lodger.” The Lodger” went on to huge success. Ultimately sparking the release of the mediocre “ The Pleasure Garden.” More important it was all Hitchcock, suspense, thrills and deliberate plot turns that dominated so many of Hitchcock’s films.
