Homeless Bird is about Koly a 13 year old Indian girl who got married in a very young age. She soon became a widow and could never return to her parents because it would go against her traditions and bring shame on her family. Becoming a widow restricted her in many ways such as she could only wear a white sari "it is what widows wear". (Chapter 3), pg. 55 Koly had no value to the Mata’s family, she was just one more mouth to feed and she became almost like a servant, but she also learned many great things after becoming a widow which led her to becoming a free and independent individual. For example becoming a widow made her learn how to read and become educated, it also helped her become mature and develop sense of independence and courage. Koly faced many problems but they strengthened and gave her the experiences she needed to become free and successful. Here are the three reasons that becoming a widow helped Koly
Becoming a widow also helped Koly find herself and live her life the way she wants to. Here are three reasons why I think so.
When Hari died sassur felt very guilty because he knew that now they've ruined a young girl’s life and made her become a widow "I was not introduced as Hari's wife.
