Academic Honesty

It is important to always be honest about any academic assignment that you turn in. Regardless of what academic it is important to give where it is due for using someone's information or words as part of your assignment. Unfortunately I have made this mistake by not properly citing my sources,it was not my intention to plagiarize but because I was in error for not knowing the proper way I made a big mistake. Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. It is possible to plagiarize if you are not familiar with the APA format,although not knowing is not an excuse.
I am really ashamed to have to write this paper for my mistake because I do not want to be looked at as someone that steals others words or work to use it as my own . Even though I am ashamed of my mistake I am grateful that I was not suspended or kicked out of school for this because I have worked hard for my degree. I am a honest person and have instilled in my children to always tell the truth. When I received the notice about my paper being cited for plagiarism I told the truth about how I obtained the information and that I was sorry because that was not my intention. I have since taken the plagiarism mastery test and the work shop and I now know where I was making my mistake. Now I am careful to be sure and cite everything properly, if I am not sure I cite it anyway.
Plagiarism is simply using someone else’s words and calling them your own. According to Natasha Das, “Plagiarism is the wrongful presentation of somebody else's work or idea as one's own without adequately attributing it to the source” (2011,pages 67-71).
