Toronto is a city with a lot of hotels. There are good options for who is visiting the city or coming for seminars and conferences. Each alternative can differ in many aspects: how fancy or simple the hotel is, price, if there is or not a restaurant on the site, quality of the service and the lobby and facilities. Some people not even pay attention at the lobbies, but they can have many differences. Hotel lobbies may vary by different styles of décor, illumination, furniture, size and services available. The Marriot Hotel at the Eaton Centre in Downtown and the Day’s Inn at the Beaches, east side of Toronto, are good examples because they have some contrasting aspects in their lobbies. If people are looking for a nice and relaxing atmosphere, than the Marriot Hotel might be a better choice compared to the Day’s Inn. The size of the lobby is one of the most different aspects when compared the lobbies of the Marriot Hotel and the Day’s Inn one. The french hotel chain has a very big and spacious lobby. The american chain has a lobby not very big and not spacious. The high ceiling at the Marriot gives a sensation that the lobby is even bigger. If the ceiling at the Day’s Inn were at least the same size of the Marriot one, it would help to make the lobby a little bit bigger. The illumination is other aspect that has some influence in the space perception. Places with more light, especially natural light, can make a small place look more spacious. The Marriot, besides the fact it has a bigger lobby, has lots of windows and, consequently, lots of natural light. If the Day’s Inn had more natural light available, even with the medium size ceiling, it would look larger. The décor is quite different too. The Marriot Hotel is more preoccupied in drawing the attention of their visitors. The modern decoration is very beautiful.
