How does Wilfred Owen create sympathy for the wounded soldier in Disabled?

The idea of sympathy is portrayed throughout the poem ‘disabled’, a lot of it is sympathy for his loss of friends and family, and limbs. These can be divided into four categories, physical, emotional, lifestyle, dignity. Owen knew what the trauma felt like as he knew people and may have experience in the time he was in the war.

His main technique that worked the best was his references towards physical loss. One quote that really made me think was “legless, sewn short at elbow”. This quote is so powerful as it really makes you think about the physical effects that have happened to this young, 16 year old soldier. It is powerful imagery as it makes you imagine a 16-17 year old boy with no legs, and 1 working arm. The sentences are very short, and blunt, this creates a tone in the reader's head which is a negative, upsetting tone.
