How Great Men Turn In To Beast

Its amazing how war turns men into beast, or something they thought they would never be. In All Quite On The Western Front written by Erich Maria Remarque you would be surprised at what you would find to support this. How the soldiers lives was surrounded by war, like they did not know anything else but war. It seems that they would not know what they would do if the war did not go on or never excited. They would be like lost kids.
Some of the stuff that these men went though and said made you feel like you were right there with them standing side by side. Some of these things made you wonder how it would feel to know that you could be killed any minute of the day. That you could get blown to pieces so easily .You could not trust anybody even, “If your own father came over with them, you would not hesitate to throw a bomb at him.”(Remarque 114). Could you imagine killing your father, the person that gave you life. That’s what the men in this book was going threw. You would want to go home you would want to escape the war only to never return. That is not always the way apparently. Reading this makes you realize this. “The first bomb, the first explosion, and burst in our hearts… We believe in such things no longer. We believe in the war.”(Remarque 88). It is insane that the only thing that keeps you close to the real world was a pencil, paper, pictures, or a note from one or two of your love ones. Its just you and your gun. So many things are expected out of this story, and the total opposite happens. When you are just laying there with your eyes closed, all you see is war and people you’ve killed. You...
