How to Box

When standing in the ring toe to toe with another man there are a few things you should probably have down by now, lets start with the basics. When boxing you have a handful of attacks you can use in your arsenal, now since this is boxing the only thing allowed to be throw are punches. You have your Jab, this is used to find range on your opponent to make your appoint back up or just to slowly pick your appoint apart. More importantly you have a cross, this is just a straight punch with your right hand, the cross is one of the heaviest punches that one can throw, in boxing speed creates power therefor the faster the punch is coming the more damage it will do, this is why the cross is so dangerous because it has little time from your face to his. Moving down the line you will come to a left and right hook, these are your “Knockout” punches, these punches will catch your opponent off guard and most likely in the jaw if thrown at the face, but be weary this punch is a risk to throw, when throwing any kind of hook you turn your whole body into the punch an even more dangerously this punch takes the longest time from your face to his so for a good amount of time your hand is away from your face and unless you connect with him first, you are left completely open for any kind of quick punch he might try to counter with. Lastly you have your uppercut, when I began to box I asked my trainer what I should do when someone throws an uppercut, he simply replied “Move the F*** out of the way”. The uppercut is the match ender, this attack takes the longest to throw out of them all but like all things the bad is worth the good because this is the lights out punch, if you connect with an uppercut 9 times out of 10 your opponent will hit the ground.
The most important thing any boxer can master is defense. The rule of thumb is “Hard to hit, easy to miss”. When on defense you again have a few moves in your arsenal to defend against anything your opponent might...
