We each are faced with many quandary’s in life that shape and mold us in a way that can secure not only our future, but the future of our children: in saying this, one of the most intricate tasks growing up is the selection of an educational major that will not only manufacture a plinth for one’s own future, but set one up as a structural block for the next generation. At the onset of choosing a college major, one must relax and stay calm; choosing said major can and will prove to be (for many) an unbelievably daunting tasks. The easiest way I found, was to start off by brainstorming a list of jobs that sound intriguing. Following this brainstorm I separated the list of jobs into likenesses such as compiling correction officer, state trooper, and ATF agent into “police type work”. Once I finished grouping my lists of jobs, I began to compile a separate brainstorming list of my skills. I found that though I enjoyed cooking and landscaping at home: I had absolutely no skills to help me in either field. My skills (through the military) showed me that I was best professionally suited for police work. Next I began thinking of two important questions that you should ask yourself when choosing a major: “What would make me happy for the rest of my life?” and “What is a major that can support me and my family the way I want it to?” Both of these questions are used to help one “cut down” the last remaining list that sits in front of you. The first question is the most important because you want to choose a major that gives you the opportunity to expand and grow in your field of choice. One will only truly be happy (professionally) if they are involved in a subject that stimulates them both mentally and physically. The second question makes one think about the over time result of the major both for financial reasons and for the security of the future.
