How to Survive

How to survive being the biggest guy on the high school basketball team? First you have to get thru basketball conditioning, and u have coach like I use to u might die. He thought running cured everything, sickness, weakness, and hungriness. I remember running so much my legs would break at the knees. He ran us all thru Northwestern (high school) hallways and even around building like we were the cross-country team. I hated when we have nice day because we would run on the track and the benchers. When we was outside there was no excuses for being late or being unprepared because he warned you the day before and even the day after. Try-outs consist of a four days. Day one is a light conditioning followed by scrimmage then the rest of the four days follow suit. Now here comes day two this, were you meet the real side of a coach. This is where you find out if he’s cool or a real hard ball. Most coaches save their ugly side until that first official day of practice. Now you have met coach the fun starts. Or he might start out what we call the strip. The strip is the longest hallway of the school. He will have you run as hard as you can down the hallway then blow the whistle to quickly change direction and sprint back. He might end the first half of condition with wall sits. Wall sit are murder, they burn but tone you thighs. We will do wall sits for about two minutes with thirty second break in between sets. After that with he calls a warm up the scrimmage starts. The next the day is almost like yesterday but he likes which it up a little. By now you like I don’t even want to play no more. Your body sore arms and legs hurt but if you want be on the team at this point, now it’s time to push it. Coach see’s that u hurt but this make him look closer to see if you have the drive...
