The Competitive Advantage
The two resort hotels that I selected are the Chelsea Hotel and Hilton both located in Atlantic City, NJ. From comparing the websites for both resort hotels I would have to chose The Hilton brand as having the best website and rates for the amenities that are being offered. The rates seem to be similar and the ultimate decision is being based on location and amenities that both properties offer.
I think that the Hilton brand resort hotel connects with the customers the best. I think that it has to do a lot with the overall usage of the site and the options that are available to navigate through the website and the Hilton offer a loyalty program called the Hilton Honors.
The technology used made the hotels easier to find when searching for a resort hotel in the Atlantic City, NJ area. I think that information technology has made the hotel reservations process smoother by allowing customers to check availability online and make their reservations as well online versus having to call the 800 number for reservations. I would have to say that Hilton hotels uses technology the most to gain competitive advantage over the boutique hotel. The boutique hotel probably has a customer base that is restricted to loyal customers who had previously stayed where as, Hilton has a loyal customer base from all their hotel locations. Hilton now has a timeshare capability where this can open up for more customers to travel to locations where they can use their points to stay for free or at a discounted rate.
I think that the boutique resort hotel should invest in a more user friendly website to improve customer services. When you are on Hilton you can update, change or cancel your reservation online without having to call in. On the Chelsea site I did not find that option available. The Chelsea can also update their site to include social media networks....
