Huck Finn vs Tom Sawyer

11/29/08 Salem Witch Trials: Sexual Repression The novel starts of with Salem teenage girls dancing in the forest, with some of the naked. A townsperson see’s them, and charges them with witchcraft. This was example of how the women in Salem weren’t taken seriously, and had harsh restrictions. The girls could not reveal themselves, nor dance and have fun without being accused of witchcraft. The girls were accused of witchcraft, even though they really weren’t, but Abigail planned to take advantage of this situation and started saying lies. “And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it”- Abigail to the girls (Act 1). All these are factors involve sexual repression. The fact that the women are being accused of witchcraft itself is sexual repressions. The fact that Abigail will not tell people about the affair, and how Elizabeth lied in court. Sexual Repression has managed to change the way the people of Salem ran their lives.
