The Huffington Post was launched on May 9th, 2005 by Arianna Huffington. The author and international media mogul started her journey in Athens Greece, where she was born and raised. At a young age she decided to relocate in order to study economics at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. During her time at the University she became President of its famed debate organization, the Cambridge Union. She eventually earned her master’s degree in economics and set up shop in London to pursue writing. Huffington also published her first book in 1974, called The Female Woman. She has authored a dozen additional books ranging from topics of feminism to corporate America to politics. In 1980, Arianna moved to the United States for personal reasons but ultimately because she desired a change. Huffington continued to write and author books. In 1986, she met her husband Michael Huffington, a secretary with in the U.S. Department of Defense. Arianna has also made an attempt at a government position like her now ex-husband. In 2003, she ran as the Independent ticket against Arnold Schwarzenegger for the California governorship. Although she withdrew from the race for political reasons, that same year she had a New York Times bestseller: Pigs at the Trough: How Corporate and Political Corruption are Undermining America. The creation of The Huffington Post has been a significant accomplishment along Huffington’s life journey.
In 2005, Arianna Huffington and co-founder Kenneth Lerer launched the online site The Huffington Post. This gave Arianna the opportunity to be heavily involved in what she loved, by becoming the editor-in-chief. The site was initially recognized for blogging, liberal punity, and news aggregation.
