Introduction: In this assignment I will be investigating the factors that affect the human resource department’s core activities at the Newham car dealership and how the department functions e.g. acquisition, utilising and retention of staff also the different method of motivating employees with in the company.

Human resources are one of the most important features of many businesses including Newham - especially in an economy where there is an increasing shift towards service-based industries. Human resources account for a large proportion of many businesses' costs and it is the people that invariably drive a business. Management of these resources therefore is an integral part of business success.

Human resource planning

Human Resource Planning is the development of strategies for matching the size and skills of the workforce to organisational needs. Human resource planning assists organisations to recruit, retain, and optimize the deployment of the personnel needed to meet business objectives and to respond to changes in the external environment. The process involves carrying out a skills analysis of the existing workforce, carrying out manpower forecasting, and taking action to ensure that supply meets demand. This may include the development of training and retraining strategies. Human resource planning has traditionally been used by organizations to ensure that the right person is in the right job at the right time.

External factors of human resource planning

External planning factors are those that influence the business from the outside its direct control.

Businesses operate in an external environment in which as well as competition from rivals businesses have to take account of legal, political, social and economic influences.
