Icarus, the daredevil, soaring to the skies and embracing the sun’s warm glow. Icarus creates the boundaries that normal and average people live by. His eagerness and adventurous mentality pushes our human potential to the max. Although Icarus was much younger than Daedalus, Icarus tested the limits of his wings, thus allowing humanity to accomplish the unimaginable.
Icarus was looked upon as a fool that didn’t listen to his father’s specific orders. However, with every accomplishment there are always people that are jealous and unable to accept the fact that you succeeded. For instance, what were people thinking when we planned to walk on the moon? There were many people that were excited because we were going to test new heights and explore places we’ve never been before. However, there were also many people that disliked the plan and thought the idea of walking on the moon was idiotic and useless. Although Daedalus made the wings, without Icarus Daedalus wouldn’t have been able to see the advantages of his wings. People can learn from Icarus’s mistakes and make the improvements in the wings necessary to fly to the sun. Failure is only failure to those who are pessimistic. Is the cup half empty or half full? Optimists would believe that the cup is half full. People supporting Daedalus are more pessimistic because humanity must first fail in order to later succeed.
Daedalus was an average human being that was happy with just being complacent in life. Being complacent and comfortable is good but being in your comfort zone all the time will not help you learn. Daedalus’ way of living was an easy way to live. There is no excitement in his lifestyle and he would continue to live a daily routine and then die. People like Icarus build excitement in our everyday lives and give us something to look forward to everyday.
