Immigration in America

Immigration without Permission
Illegal immigration is something that has gone on in America for decades and is a growing concern as the situation seems to be getting out of control. “Perhaps the most important value at steak with respect to U.S. immigration policy is how the policy will affect the standard of living of existing American population” (Heer 8). Throughout the course of history, illegal immigrants have harmed America by taking jobs from our very own citizens, abusing rights and privileges, causing violence through gang affiliation.
The first reason why Illegal immigration harms America, is the fact that when Illegal Immigrants come to our country they take jobs from hundreds of middle class hard working Americans. According to a study that the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics and Census did, “Immigrants have obtained just about 1,000,000 jobs from Americans in the short time span of 2008 until 2010” (Illegal Aliens Taking U.S. Jobs, Par: 5). This was the same time that Americans were losing jobs in times of an economic crisis. Companies hire illegal immigrants because they are willing to work for a less amount of pay then the American workers would want to work for. As a matter of fact, this type of act became illegal after a law that was passed in 1986, called the Immigration Reform and Control act of 1986, still these companies completely ignore the fact that this is illegal and hire immigrants anyway. Most of the people that migrate illegally to the United States tend to be of the Hispanic population, ranging from places such as Mexico, Cuba, and places in Central America. The Mexicans usually come in by crossing the border that lies in the South West of the United States, while the Cubans tend to come from oversea, most of the time by boat, and usually settle in the South East.
