Implementation of Attitude in Overall Quality of Life

The degree to which someone is content with their life can be swayed by their standard of living, however, it is largely reliant on the attitude that the individual takes towards their pursuit of happiness. That is a goal all should strive to achieve, and one must do this by ensuring that they retain the correct disposition all throughout the course of reaching that ambition. Thomas Jefferson once said, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”. Everyone is born into a set of circumstances and the quality of life that individual has is dependent upon the attitude he/she embraces. One example that epitomizes this statement is the song “Mother’s Little Helper”, by the Rolling Stones. This song contains story elements that are centered around the plight of a bored housewife who becomes addicted to drugs after an attempt to give her drab lifestyle a jolt. Another example can be found in a particular photograph of Martin Luther King Jr., depicting him standing across from the Washington Monument. In this photo, he is addressing a gathering of thousands of oppressed African-Americans, all of whom are answering his call to rise up against their oppressors and to improve their lives by removing the burden of hatred and racism. The short story “A Man Who Had No Eyes”, by Mackinlay Kantor is also a excellent example of how attitude influences our lives. This story uses particular approaches to compare how two men, both faced with the same situation after a disastrous event strikes, react to the sudden and violent shift in lifestyle. These men proceeded to follow two very different paths, each forged by their choice of attitude towards their position.
