Importance of Family Values. Essay

I do believe that family values are important, and this article gives some valuable points. I don't completely agree with some of the statements included in this article, but overall, it mentions some important things I wish more people would consider. Coming home to a stable and supportive environment is important for a child growing up. Comparing the way my house works and what the article says home should be like, I don't relate to some of the views of the article. Yes, media can influence the way we think, but in my home we don't like to turn the television completely off. Sometimes we bond over watching hockey games or watching a show that we all like. My dad does not get involved in my school life. I like it that way. When he does get involved, I tend to do worse. I like doing things on my own and motivating myself. Sometimes, my dad does stereotypes me. He says that he “expects me to do what any other young, foolish teenager would do.” Sometimes that makes me feel like he has no trust in me, but I understand. This article says to “Train them well.” I was not “trained” growing up. I am a person, not a dog. My sister and my father are good, somewhat responsible people, but they aren't exactly great models to look up to. They're lazy and procrastinate with everything. There's not much I can say about my neighborhood. I live in a senior citizen area, so I'm really the only kid around. I can't relate to the people around me, and I don't know my neighbors well anyways. It's important to do the best you can. Be involved, and participate. I can't tell you how many of my friends struggle, because some of their parents don't care. When the article says to “train” your kids, don't do that. You help them, help them to grow. Be apart of their lives so that they can be successful. Participating can change a lot for a child growing up. Family, especially parents, need to be there for their kids.
