When you are speaking or calling cadence or anything while in front of an audience, you are performing as if you were an actor on stage. How you are being perceived is very important. Be solemn if your topic is serious. You want to present the desired image to your audience by looking pleasant, enthusiastic, confident, and proud, but not arrogant and always remaining calm. Appear relaxed, even if you feel nervous. Speak slowly, enunciate clearly, and show appropriate emotion and feeling relating to your topic. Establish rapport with those you are talking to or addressing. Speak to the person farthest away from you to ensure your voice is loud enough to project to the back of the room or formation. Vary the tone of your voice and dramatize if necessary, that way you won’t lose interest from those you are talking to. Body language is important. Standing, walking or moving about with appropriate hand gestures or facial expressions is always preferred rather than sitting down or standing still with head down and reading from a paper or staring off into space. Speak with conviction as if you really believe in what you are saying. Persuade the soldiers or other NCOs or Officers effectively. Reduce the fluff and filler material in your talking. Try to make every word count, and think about how you're going to phrase something before you open your mouth and say it. If you don't have something important to say don’t try to fake the funk its better just to stay on track and don’t make anything up as you go, if not its no better than if you were to just remain silent. With continuous effort, the right motivation and the proper sounding off the right words and attitude and willingness will come to you more easily from not only those you are trying to influence but you yourself.
