Industrialization produced many different positive effects for society. The industrial age brought about new sources of power and worker productivity, but along with these affects there was also social strains that came about.
The industrial age was basically a social revolution that changed many people’s lives. There were many different social strains that came out of this industrialization. In the document The Peterloo Massacre, it emphasizes the fact that the middle working class were suffering in society. There was a mass meeting held on August 16, 1819 to demand a reform on the parliamentary representation. This meeting was necessary because during this time, there were poor economic conditions and a major lack of suffrage in England. A revolt let out and several people were killed and more were injured. This document helps us to understand the social strains caused by industrialization because the citizens in England had to deal with very poor economic conditions and a lack of jobs for them. They were experiencing a period of economic depression during this industrial period. This was a strain on society because the economy had gone far down hill during a time when society was supposed to be improved because of the new industrialized society.
The document The Case for Birth Control also emphasizes the social strains caused by industrialization. This document shows the social strains in relation to the family. In the document it states how fathers are growing despondent because their labor can’t bring in adequate wages to support their growing families.
