ABSTRACT

Capital punishment is the legalized method of killing someone for a crime committed. Death row is where the condemned live awaiting their fate. The harshness of the sentencing changes depending on the severity of the crime committed and the jury’s decision. In this paper, we will attempt to illustrate the inequality of women and men being sentenced to death row for murder from the years 1991- 2009 in the United States. Subsequently, we will demonstrate the cost associated with housing an inmate for a life sentence against a death sentence as well as the trial cost.
