Silence. On an isolated train platform I stand here alone, waiting and wondering, will he or won’t he? He said he will be here at 11am... My watch reads 11:14am. Where is he?
Nobody is around. The platform is bland. Concrete for the floor, either side of me are gaps of pebbles where the trains once came, bricks for walls and a set of black stairs covered in different footprints, where people once walked.
He’s still not here? Why is he organising a rendezvous where he doesn’t even make an appearance? This is why my mind can’t help but wonder... is he with his wife? The last few months, he has been seeing me less. The locations we meet are becoming so secluded. Its 11:46am- I will wait. He wouldn’t leave me, his probably running late... stuck in a meeting or needs to finish off paper work.
As I wait I figure I should sit on the stairs. As I begin to sit down I notice in front of me a sign on the brick wall “Hold on to your personal belongings. DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED!” Even if anybody was around they wouldn’t want my hand bag, I have nothing. I live in a studio apartment he bought me last year, nothing flash but better than living with grandma. All I have time to do with her is cook and look after her- not the life of a typical twenty-nine year old.
I’ve been here for hours... He loves me... He will be here soon. 1:23pm “I can’t take this” my yelling seemed loud enough for the world to hear, yet no one responded. “Beep, beep!” I received a message and god it was good to hear a sound. Quickly, I scramble through my hand bag and salvage my phone. The text message reads “Sorry, can’t make it.” Silence...
