Introduction
The economic benefits of information and communication technology has been a major topic for years especially since ICT has been used in an increasing number of instruments, processes, devices, gadgets, machinery and such in a vast range of industries and the performance of ICT has continue to increase for example the speed of microprocessors, the performance of mobile telephones and computer screens has increased faster than the price.
Important Features of Modern ICT
I would have to say that the most important features of modern ICT in terms of communications in organization would have to be the internet; the Web, intranets and extranet.
Encarta states that the Internet is a network that links computer networks all over the world by satellite and telephone, connecting users with service networks such as e-mail and the World Wide Web. The Internet provides several communication tools that can be useful for any business. These tools can be used to exchange information within the company, with other businesses, or both. Businesses can even use these Internet tools such as the common set of Internet protocols and massive amounts of communication applications, which use this set of protocols without connecting to Internet. Internet connectivity can be used to reach customers, to contact vendors, and to acquire information from local and federal government agencies.
The World Wide Web (WWW) is a computer network of information resources that combines text, sound, graphics and multimedia. The information on the World Wide Web can be accessed and searched through the Internet. Businesses can use the Web to
advertise their services or products, to hire employees, to establish a global presence, or for establishing and maintaining a competitive edge. It can be used to shorten or eradicate supply chains; and to perform market research advantage
